CES designs, builds and installs special controlled environments for clients requiring spaces with exacting environmental standards.
For over 28 years, CES Special Environments have been found in food storage and food manufacturing businesses, high-tech manufacturing, R&D facilities, life-science labs, biotech firms and educational institutions. In most cases, these are custom designed environments that are tailored to the specific products being manufactured, grown or harvested, or to the unique science or process being employed there.
The big differentiator in our specialty environment business is a greater requirement for risk avoidance. As an example, a biotech application with very expensive medicines or fluids, require additional safety nets that we build within our Special Environments systems.
Built-in redundancy is often employed, like adding an additional refrigeration system in an environment that requires precise cool temperatures. If one system goes down, the second system will start to function. Additionally, the client needs to be alerted when there is a systems failure. Thus we place a great deal of higher level of sensing technology into those rooms built around that refrigeration system that function within a custom control system.
There is also a need for uniformity. When working on a produce growing application or storage application, a temperature of 40 degrees plus or minus two or three degrees could be acceptable. But for some type of chemical assay or a medical application– CES often has to deliver a tight uniformity, plus or minus half a degree or one degree everywhere within the space, so no matter where they place that product.
The big design drivers for these facilities in the life science space are even more tightly regulated under an FDA versus a USDA . This much tighter protocol which brings systems that require a deeper dive into commissioning and validation.
When CES builds these life science applications, they’re laden with sensors and safety devices. Additionally, all of those items require checkout and commissioning. And in short, when the client wants to prove out all the varied levels of performance, we provide the controls and the data collection to satisfy the most demanding needs, whether in the biotech or medical industries. All these applications have to be stable, backed up, redundant, to avoid risk.
Our Special Environments are typically an integrated solution. We design and engineer the refrigeration system or the mechanical system, and then we will integrate controls and the monitoring on that mechanical system, all bundled in as one solution. Everything works hand in hand.
We have 28 years of experience and knowledge to anticipate what could go wrong in your controlled environment and will engineer a solution to prevent problems from occurring. Our client’s love that.
Cold storage – Food Processing applications
Special Environments – Life Science cold rooms
Our primary goal is to eliminate the risk for our customers in their special environments. Often in special environments, we are called in by a general contractor where this environment is a small piece of a much larger project for them, yet they need this room to function precisely.
A big part of our sophisticated special environment projects is data analytics and incidence reporting. When something goes wrong, the control systems can send out an email, a text message, or can make a phone call. Once alerted, we also provide the tools to best diagnose and break that problem down. That’s where our data analytics comes into play.
For example, on any FDA regulated facility, all the life sciences need to prove that the product or the process actually resides in the room. If there is an excursion due to some sort of a failure, they need to have the data that documents the extent of the excursion and when it was returned back to spec.
Our clients have a significant need for the data, which is all the electronic logging and data that’s part of our systems, and then certainly we have a deeper set of data that we need to best diagnose, best monitor system performance.
Clean rooms for a variety of science & manufacturing requirements
Our design team integrates performance, aesthetic, and budgetary considerations to create the best value and most functional design.
Versatile manufacturing capabilities provide our clients with custom products and features for their specific applications.
Attention to detail results in the highest quality workmanship from our experienced installation team, delivering total client satisfaction on every project.
Our service technicians bring over 4 decades of experience and fully stocked vans to deliver the best installation, repairs and maintenance available. And our project engineers are always available for service, upgrade, or technical instruction no matter how long ago your system was installed. We also offer twenty-four hour a day support.
We have had a lot of experience building modular compounding “clean rooms” for pharmaceutical companies, and are highly recognized by the Massachusetts Pharmacy board. We have attended pharmacy board meetings, and we’ve gained the understanding of how to achieve what the compounding pharmacists need to do to make safe products.
Our Clean Rooms are fully integrated. Because these clean rooms are typically small spaces, it makes the project more difficult and specialized. It is much easier to control a 10,000 cubic foot special environment than it is a 900 cubic foot special environment like many clean rooms
The ISO standard in the clean room part is the non-viable contamination. That’s the dust and materials that’s not alive, smoke, and other hard to find particles.
The other component is: bacteria, mold, and fungus, that’s what’s called viable contamination. These rooms have both viable and nonviable contamination risk that their special environments need to address. Our project engineers are thoroughly versed in USDA, FDA, HACCP and ISO requirements.
